The Glenside Hospital Museum houses collections relating to the history of Bristol Psychiatric Hospitals, and Learning Disability Hospitals.

Glenside Hospital Museum Front ViewThe Museum, re-developed in 2009/10, has on display an array of medications and remedies, drawings by patient Denis Reed, a fully operational church organ, E.C.T. machines, padded cell, straight jacket, mortuary equipment, ophthalmic instruments, an undercarriage door of a Messerschmitt Bomber from WW2, and dioramas of an everyday ward, sick ward, and operating theatre.

 

 

The museum was founded by  Dr Donal Early

Consultant Psychiatrist, Glenside Hospital

20th May 1917 - 12 April 2004
